Abbeymead and Abbeydale are contiguous modern suburbs 3 miles to the South East of Gloucester City Centre which is easily accessed via Abbeymead Avenue and Metz Way.  Both areas are reasonably modern, having been built from the late 1970’s through to the late 1990’s.  They are always popular for house buyers as there is a wide selection of house types, and as a family area, Abbeymead and Abbeydale offer a selection of primary schools and shopping centres in the vicinity.

What facilities does Abbeydale have?

Abbeydale is located 3 miles South East of Gloucester City Centre.  Up until 1970 most of the area was green fields.  Abbeydale is served by two spine roads (Wheatway and Heron Way).  The cul-de-sacs served from Heron Way are locally known as “The Heron” which also provides the name of the local Primary School.

Heron was built in accordance with the Radburn model, which consists of loops and cul-de-sacs to provide rear access to the houses where there are garages and parking spaces, whilst the fronts of the houses face onto green areas and footpaths.

Houses that were built later in Hawthorne Avenue, Bittern Avenue and subsequently Wheatway are of a conventional and varied style with parking and garaging to the front.

Glevum Way Shopping Centre is the main hub of Abbeydale and is dominated by a Morrisons supermarket along with a parade of shops and take away restaurants.  Nearby you will also find the Ridge and Furrow pub, Hadwen Health medical centre, a veterinary surgery, Heron Primary School and the Abbeydale Community centre with sportsfields and a childrens playground.

According to Stagecoach the whole area is served by several frequent bus routes that run between Upton St Leonards and Gloucester City Centre.

What is Abbeymead like to live?

Heron Way and Wheatway both join via a roundabout onto Abbeymead Avenue, which is the main link road through Abbeymead.  Junctions from Abbeymead Avenue include Upton Lane towards Upton St Leonards, Lobleys Drive leading to Coopers Edge and North Upton Lane to Hucclecote.

From 1986 this area of former farmland between Abbeydale and Barnwood became known as Abbeymead which is one of the most popular family suburbs of Gloucester.

Each cul-de-sac leading off Abbeymead Avenue and Lobleys Drive has it’s own distinct characteristic depending on the developer at the time.

We have used Michael Tuck for both Lettings and Sales, and they have always been professional and efficient. In particular, Miles Pledger was instrumental in getting our recent, very difficult sale over the line. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

highly recommended!

I’ve used Micheal Tuck in Gloucester for both purchase and selling in the last three years. The service was always professional, Miles Pledger especially handled both sales really well.
