Rightmove are supporting our Charity Bike Ride26th May 2015
My name is Richard Tuck and I am a director of Michael Tuck Estate Agents in Gloucester. I am undertaking a 750 mile cycling challenge with my partner Faye Williams, in aid of British Heart Foundation.
With less than six weeks to go until the departure on the 27th June 2015, the arrangements are coming along nicely.
We have planned the route in detail and have booked accommodation for each evening. There will be twelve stops along the way. Starting from Gloucester we will ride via Stourbridge, Congleton, Blackpool, Arnside, Carlisle, Thornhill, Ayr, Dunoon, Kingshouse, Fort Augustus, Inverness, Lairg and finally Scourie. If you live near any of these locations, feel free to ride along with us, or meet us in the evening for a recovery beer!
My Dad (Michael Tuck) will be transporting our luggage each day, and my uncle (Chris) and his family will be providing us back-up support should we suffer mechanical breakdowns or injury. We are hoping that they don’t get way-laid by numerous country pubs along the route!
We will be staying in a mixture of Youth Hostels, Hotels, Guest Houses, B&Bs and also with family where possible as we are self-funding the trip so we need to keep the costs down to a minimum.
The only stop over that we are currently struggling with is the penultimate one in Lairg. There are only two B&Bs in this remote village, but both of them are expensive and only offer a minimum of a two night stay which isn’t any good to us. If anyone can offer any advice, it would be gratefully received!
We fly back home on Saturday 11th July and have already booked the flight from Inverness to Bristol. It will take us just over one hour by air, substantially less than thirteen days by bike!!
We have now set up a JustGiving
page for British Heart Foundation, so please be generous and donate!!!
I have also been in touch with Agents Giving, previously the Estate Agency Foundation who have kindly offered to help support the challenge. They have applied for a Rightmove grant to help us with the costs of organising the trip, which will be a great help.
I have been training since January, mostly by riding to work and back each day and on the weekends. Since the evenings have become lighter I have been able to increase the distance a bit. I have completed the Santini Cotswold Spring Classic and Brunel Flyer; both were 100 mile sportives and featured very hilly sections!!
We also spent a week in Lanzarote and hired road bikes over there, it was extremely windy but we managed to rack up 200 miles of training which was useful.
I use an app called Strava. I upload all of my rides onto this and will also be using it during the challenge. So feel free to follow me, otherwise you can always view my last five rides will display below:
